What if I already have an insurance policy?

If you already have pet insurance, Pet Proactive’s free “switch check service” will confirm any pre-existing health conditions that would affect your policy before you buy, so you can have complete certainty of cover for you and your pet.

What happens if I move practice? 

Your annual premiums are based on the costs of pet care at Broad Lane Vets. If you move house and/or move practice, you will be offered continued insurance at a similar rate to market leaders, or alternatively, you may be able to move to another independent practice working with Pet Proactive and receive their bespoke rates.

What isn’t covered?

  • Third Party Liability: most pets are insured for third liability through their home insurance. If not third party insurance is available at a reasonable one off annual fee through the Dogs Trust.
  • Pre-existing conditions: like most insurers, Pet Proactive will not cover pre-existing conditions that your pet had prior to taking out the insurance
  • Specialist pets – guarding, racing, security dogs
  • Breeding or Pregnancy related conditions or illness
  • Routine healthcare – booster vaccinations, anti-parasiticides and cosmetic dentistry
  • Why can’t I get insurance for my pet over 6 years old? 

Why can I only start my insurance when my pets are under 6 years old?

Pet Proactive believe strongly that big increases in pet insurance premiums as a pet gets older is misleading and unfair, so they aim to price their premiums fairly over the expected cost of your pets lifetime, based on the cost of healthcare at Broad Lane Vets for your pets breed. This avoids big rises in annual premiums as your pet gets older. Therefore, they do not start new policies for pets over 6 years old.

Who do I talk to about my policy? 

Your contract is between you and Pet Proactive. We will be able to help with many queries you may have, but you can contact them directly about any claim queries or questions about your cover. Please check their T&C’s for more information.

Am I covered when I am on holiday?

Yes, visits to other veterinary practices whilst you are away on holiday or to external referral centres are covered, although claims will need to be done with these care providers and you may not be able to do a direct claim.
